Voting and Surveys
One system covers both. An election is a ballot: anonymous, usually one vote per household, results hidden until it closes. A survey is the looser version of the same thing.
Eligibility
Eligibility depends on how the item is scoped:
- Per household: one ballot per address. Whoever in the household votes first casts it, and the others see that it has been cast and by whom.
- Per member: every member votes individually.
If you have no address on file you are not eligible, and the page says so. Fix it on your profile or with your admins rather than waiting.
Question types
- Multiple choice: pick one.
- Multi-select: pick several, sometimes up to a limit.
- Free text: write an answer.
Attachments
A ballot can carry reference material: a link, or a document from your community's library. Read it before voting. Anything uploaded this way also appears under Governing Documents as election material.
Anonymity
An election is anonymous: your identity is recorded as having voted, so turnout and quorum can be counted, but not how you voted. A survey may or may not be anonymous, and the page tells you which before you answer.
Results
Results become visible when the item's settings say so: after it closes, live as votes come in, or to admins only.
Where a quorum is set, the results also say whether it was met. A vote that misses quorum may not bind the community, depending on your bylaws.
